Why It’s Time To Move On!

Why it's time to move onYou’re sitting at your desk looking at your calendar and you can’t quite believe it’s almost the end of the year. You have dedicated five years to a great firm and have learned a tremendous amount during your time there but you can’t push that niggling feeling that it’s time to move on. Although the prospect of moving on to pastures new excites you, you can’t escape the headlines forecasting an upcoming recession and the threat of uncertainty reels you back to reality. You are not alone! So many of us are longing to jump back on to the career ladder and find our next move! Recognising that you have outgrown your current job shows a profound level of self-awareness, however it takes courage to move beyond your comfort levels and actually realise your aspirations.

Although the reasons can be entirely subjective and varying, we’re going to explore some of the main motivators for seeking a new job and why it’s time to act now.

  • Lack of progression

There’s nothing more frustrating than feeling stagnant in a job with no prospects to develop yourself further. In a society where things are fast moving and personal development is a prerequisite to success, what do you do when there’s a lack of opportunity around? Not only are you left feeling de-motivated and uninspired but it could also leave others around you questioning your credibility in your work. You are the best judge of whether your skillset is being used effectively and if not – perhaps it’s time to explore other options.

  • Outgrowing your role

Job satisfaction is a buzzword we often hear being thrown around but how do we measure this on a practical level? If your role no longer excites you or your day to day tasks begin to feel mundane, perhaps these are signs you’ve outgrown your current role and need to seek something new which is challenging, more engaging and intellectually stimulating.

  • Salary

This is often a big motivator for people and as we’re in the midst of a cost of living crisis, it’s quite understandable why! It’s crucial to find an employer who values your worth which in turn boosts the productivity and energy you dedicate to your work.

  • Lack of flexibility

In the last few years there has been a significant shift in the way people approach their work. It’s hard to imagine a time before flexible and remote working and the benefits of such working structures have proved to be invaluable. Personally as a working parent, it means I can make it for those important school meetings and pick ups, not to mention the school plays this time of year, regardless of whether your child has a role or not and is centre stage! There are still quite a few businesses however who are very rigid in their approach to work life and if it’s not working for you – maybe it’s time to find something that will. Many of our clients are passionate about their employees striking that perfect work/home life balance and offer a healthy mix to suit their people. 2:3 or 3:2. take your pick!
